With an estimated 5 billion people lacking surgical care worldwide, Mohammad Torabi, MD,
PGY 5; Ben Kuhns, MD, PGY 5; Barb Wirtz, BSN, RN and Hugh Lindsey, MD, Program Director
traveled to rural Honduras to provide surgical care, interact with the Honduran healthcare
team, and learn about healthcare in a low-and-middle income country (LMIC) as part of a
“Brigade” through One World Surgery. This one week experience was eye opening and
incredibly valuable. The Sparrow/MSU General Surgery Residency team looks forward to
continuing this experience in the future! Many thanks to our colleagues with One World
Surgery and the Honduran healthcare team!
